A 2007 Canadian film, Shake Hands With The Devil is a fictionalized drama based on the events Roméo Dallaire describes in the book. Like the book, it looks at the role the UN and the international community played in the Rwandan Genocide.

Hotel Rwanda (Film)

Made in 2004, the film Hotel Rwanda takes its title from the real-life Hôtel de Mille Collines, whose name in French means “Hotel of a Thousand Hills” and Rwanda is nicknamed the “Country of a Thousand Hills.” It is a fictionalized account of the hotel’s manager Paul Rusesabagina and his efforts to protect survivors of the Rwandan Genocide who were taking refuge in the hotel. The character of Colonel Olivier in the film is loosely based on Roméo Dallaire himself. However, Dallaire did criticize the film for downplaying the role of UNAMIR in protecting survivors.
